Originally from the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, Matt attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he studied acting. While at VCU, Matt discovered an interest in training and received his first personal training certification through AFPA. Shortly thereafter he began interning with the VCU Health and Wellness Department. In 2003, Matt moved to New York to pursue careers as an actor and model and continued to work in fitness as a staff trainer at the Cornell Club Health and Fitness Center. Furthering his education as a trainer, he received his second certification through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). By 2004 he had branched out to training privately throughout New York City, and his reputation quickly grew. Though he continues to work as an actor, Matt has become well-known as an innovative and challenging trainer, who is personable, fun, and cares deeply about his clients’ health and well-being. Matt’s clients have included world-renowned fashion designers, entrepreneurs, members of Fortune’s “50 Most Powerful Women,” newspaper columnists, political analysts, and top New York doctors, attorneys and CEO’s.
While Matt has trained people for the runway and TV, his philosophy goes beyond appearance. “Certainly a major focus of personal training is helping people look their best; however, one of the most important aspects of my training is helping clients achieve balance in the body. It is absolutely vital to address the muscular imbalances and flexibility issues that can result in pain and/or injuries down the road.” Matt’s training process utilizes functional and core-integrated movements and incorporates a variety of equipment that both challenges the client and keeps the workouts fresh and exciting.
